Rocktown
Are you ready to trade your cumbersome harness and heavy pack full of ropes and gear, for a crash pad, shoes and a chalk bag? If so, Rocktown is the place to do it! Located on top of Pigeon Mountain, Rocktown is a curious collection of boulders and rock formations spread over several acres, and offers a seemingly endless supply of excellent bouldering and convenient toproping. With the recent increase in the popularity of bouldering, Rocktown has become a hangout for a small and dedicated group of climbers from Atlanta, Birmingham and Chattanooga, who seem to add new problems at an astounding rate. Mapping and documenting the area would be a tedious and difficult task, so just hike in and explore for yourself. To get there, follow the same directions for Lost Wall, but continue driving up the switchbacks to the top of Pigeon Mountain. At a fork in the road, bear right onto Rocky Lane. Go 1.2 miles to Rocktown Road on the left. Follow Rocktown Road to an obvious parking area. A flat, gentle 20 minute walk leads to the first rock formations. Note: Do not cut trees or foliage to clear the way for new boulder problems! It WILL get the area shut down.
